Zvonareva rallies to beat Wozniacki in Doha final

DOHA, Qatar (AP)—Second-seeded Vera Zvonareva rallied to defeat Jelena Jankovic 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 Friday to set up a final against top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki in the Qatar Ladies Open.

Wozniacki cruised into the final with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Marion Bartoli of France. She will be aiming for her 14th career" title after winning the trophy in Dubai last week.

Zvonareva trailed 0-40 tied at 4-4 in the third before she staged her comeback. She won five straight points and broke her opponent in the next game to reach her second final in Doha.

“It’s always tough against Jelena,” the Russian said. “She’s a great player, really aggressive and I’m quite excited over my victory. It was a great atmosphere out there.”

Bartoli beat Wozniacki in their last two matches. But Wozniacki took a 4-0 lead in the first set and was never threatened.

“It was important to start well and I played great tennis right throughout the tournament. I’m so happy to be in the final,” Wozniacki said.

The match ended when Bartoli hit a ball wide, the last of 23 unforced errors.

“I made her run very hard right from the start,” Wozniacki said. “I kept the level up, and I’m hitting the ball very well.”
