Blake, Raonic, Tomic get Indian Wells wild cards

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (AP)—Veteran James Blake and upcoming players Milos Raonic of Canada and American Coco Vandeweghe are among those players granted wild cards into the main draws of the BNP Paribas Open.

The tournament to be played March 7-20 in Indian Wells features both the ATP and WTA tours.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP)—Former No. 1 Dinara Safina won her first match since September when she beat Han Xinyun of China 6-2, 6-0 to start the Malaysian Open on Tuesday.

Safina has struggled to recover after her career was derailed by a back injury a year ago. The win ended a six-match losing streak.

The BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells has given a qualifying wild card to 1999 champion Mark Philippoussis. Querrey to miss Davis Cup tie with shoulder injury

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP)—Sam Querrey will miss the United States’ first-round Davis Cup matches against Chile because of a right rotator cuff injury.
